Oh, So Close...
May 30 - With only three full course caution periods, the Grand Am racers actually got to do some business at Lime Rock Park yesterday.
Due to the relatively short length of the Connecticut circuit (1.53 miles), the Grand Am Cup competition was split into two races this weekend. The Street Tuner (ST) class race ran on Saturday, while yesterday morning's gala was for Grand Sport (GS) cars only.
In the end, all podium spots were filled by non-domestic representatives, although the #2 Blackforest Motorsports entry, driven by PJ Zacharias and Terry Borcheller slotted into fourth place. A pair of Turner Motorsports BMW M3's grabbed the top two spots, followed by the Marcus Motorsports Porsche 997.

In lap 55, the #2 Blackforest Mustang inherited the overall lead during a full course caution period. However, when the green flag resurfaced in lap 62, the foremost position had been turned over to the #83 Porsche Carrera of BGB Motorsports.
When the checkers fell, the #5 Mustang of Tom Nastasi and Ian James was found in seventh place, the #51 Stealth Racing Mustang GT in tenth spot and the #4 Blackforest car of Valerie Limoges and David Empringham was fourteenth. The 36 car field completed the race with only a single DNF.
Grand Am competition moves on to the 2.26 mile course at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, June 23 - 25.
