Mustangs Struggle in CT

May 28 - Other than the #51 Stealth Racing Mustang GT, which qualified in fourth spot for Monday's Grand Am Cup race, the herd turned in a dismal result at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut yesterday.

The next qualified Mustangs were the Blackforest Motorsports cars, #5 of Nastasi and James in 19th spot, followed by the #2 car of Zacharias and Borcheller in 20th.

At one point in Saturday qualifying, #51 Mustang moved into second place with a lap time of 59.332 seconds (92.834 mph).

The effort was soon eclipsed by the Martinelli Motorsports' #14 BMW M3 with a 59.200 lap (93.041 mph) and the Marcus Motorsports #49 Porsche at 59.252 seconds (92.959 mph).

Because of the short course length at Lime Rock, the Grand Am Cup race is split into two races - one for the Street Tuner (ST) class and another for the Grand Sport (GS) division. Twenty-nine entries competed in the ST race on Saturday, with the win going to the Georgian Bay Motorsports Chevrolet Cobalt.

A total of forty GS cars qualified for Monday's race. Due to local regulations, no racing can be conducted on Sunday. In point of fact, no engine can even be started or run today.
