Mustang Tops Domestic Searches

by CP Staff

Despite a year of $5 gasoline, credit collapse, industry bailouts and massive job losses, the Ford Mustang was the top domestic vehicle searched for on carmax.com during 2008, not including the month of December.

The CarMax website can be used to research information on vehicles of various makes and models. The website showcases vehicles with multiple photos, the no-haggle price and information on features, options, fuel economy as well as customer reviews.

The used Mustang market is a brisk one, fed by a continuous production history, a broad range of models and wide support from the aftermarket. Recent economic troubles have depressed the used car market almost as much as on the new car side. As a result, bargains are plentiful for those with cash in hand.

Taking the top three spots on the Carmax list were the Honda Accord, Civic and Toyota Camry. On the domestic side, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford F-150 followed in sixth and seventh places, respectively.

CarMax, a FORTUNE 500 company is the nation's largest retailer of used cars. Headquartered in Richmond, Va., CarMax currently operates 99 used car superstores in 46 markets.

During the twelve months ended February 29, 2008, the company retailed 377,244 used vehicles and sold 222,406 wholesale vehicles at its in-store auctions.
