Production, Pent-up Demand Buoy Camaro Sales
In its second month of sales, Chevrolet's new 2010 Camaro approached the five-digit mark and eclipsed Mustang sales for June.
Without any incentives, GM dealers managed to deliver 9320 copies of the newest pony car to hit the street. This follows the May results of 6077 deliveries.
Chrysler dealers lightened their load by a mere 1369 Challengers in June. As reported yesterday, Ford sold 7632 Mustangs in June. There have been barely a handful of occasions in history when Camaro has outsold the Mustang.

GM car sales in June were down by almost 24%, compared to the same period last year. Pontiac enthusiasts scrambled to corner the remaining stock of the high performance G8 sedan, driving away with 3622 examples of the doomed nameplate, a 135% increase over last year. Pontiac's Vibe was the only other car to show sales growth across the entire GM car lineup.
On the truck side, the news at GM was even worse. overall truck deliveries were off by just over 40%, compared to June of 2008. Led by the Enclave, Buick-branded trucks showed a positive gain with 3771 Enclaves hitting the streets in June.
A total of 1,454 GM hybrid vehicles were delivered in the month, illustrating the wide range of hybrid product offerings available. GM offers the Chevrolet Malibu, Tahoe and Silverado, GMC Yukon and Sierra, Cadillac Escalade, Saturn Aura and Vue hybrids. So far, in 2009, GM has delivered 8,349 hybrid vehicles.
