Coming sometime... the 5.0-liter V8
New 5.0-Liter Rumors

by CP Staff

A new round of Mustang and 5.0-liter engine rumors has surfaced out of - of all places - Australia. Among the worst kept secrets in the current Ford stable, the thought of bringing modern design to a hertage legend has many enthusiasts drooling.

The existance of the development program and the refitting of Windsor Engine plant to manufacture the mill have been confirmed time and again now by individual Ford executives and flappy-mouthed politicians.

What is different this time is the apparent leaking of implementation plans, which could see the new V8 engine head down under before it is available in North America.

Ford's Australian product development chief, Russel Christophers, reportedly has revealed to Drive that Ford's current 4.6L and 5.4L V8 engines will be replaced by the new 5.0-liter V8 codenamed 'Coyote'.

An exact date for release of the engine is not known but it has been suggested that it could appear in the Mustang within the next two years, and in certain Australian models as early as 2010.

The engine specs reportedly include a four-valve SOHC design, with power around the 400hp range and torque of 400lb-ft or perhaps more.
