Drive Safer and Cheaper
by CP Staff
Although winter is not giving up without a fight in some parts of the country, longer days and more sunlight suggest that spring is here.
Along with the change of season comes cruises, road trips and increased travel. Many of us are itching to get out to wash and wax our rides. With only a little more attention paid to some maintenance issues, we'll be enjoying the pleasant weather and not coming home on a hook.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 438,000 automobile repair and maintenance shops around the country and we spend $75 billion a year to keep our cars and trucks in good shape.

Still, it is not enough. Almost nine-out-of-10 vehicles tested in recent years had some problem, ranging from low fluid levels and worn out windshield wipers to low tire pressure.
April is National Car Care month and across the country, many car dealers and other groups have set up free inspections to monitor your car's condition. Past studies by large fleet operators have shown that investing a dollar in vehicle maintenance pays back six dollars in avoided repairs and improved fuel economy.
While you're out there polishing and waxing, take a few more minutes to check under the hood or stop for a free inspection. Here's a suggested checklist to keep in mind.
