The Foundation will display the Shelby Terlingua Mustang after the automotive legends sign the car and sell raffle tickets at various events. Tickets are also available at the Foundation’s website www.winashelby.org and by mail. Anyone who purchases the $100, 5-ticket package will receive a genuine Terlingua Racing Team sticker.
"Our Shelby Car Raffles are a key part of our ongoing effort to fund the fight against child illnesses," noted Jenni Shreeves, Director of the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation. "We chose to offer a one-of-a kind Terlingua Racing Team Shelby because it represents the fun-loving, mischievous attitude that kids should be enjoying instead of facing health issues. This adult sized 'toy' is the perfect way to generate attention for the Foundation."
Offered exclusively through Shelby Automobiles, the Terlingua Racing Team post-title package for the V6 Ford Mustang includes exciting performance enhancements and striking visual cues. The Shelby features significant handling and braking improvements, including a deep draw hood, 20-inch anthracite Razor wheels and a host of styling changes including the famous Terlingua rabbit. The package will be applied, with a Shelby serial number, at official factory mod shops, including the one in Las Vegas.
The Shelby Terlingua to be raffled will include the optional supercharged engine. The "R" performance model version of the Terlingua Racing Team Shelby Mustang package features a 350 HP engine with an even more aggressive suspension and braking system to give the car an even stronger kick.
The Terlingua Racing Team began when Carroll Shelby turned the Mustang, at Ford's behest, into a race winner with a competition version of the Shelby GT350. About that time, Shelby and a few friends were enjoying "the Rat Pack" lifestyle in the Texas ghost town of Terlingua. Their parties and competitive attitude are legendary. To symbolize their philosophy, Bill Neale designed "Lucifer", the black and yellow logo with a rabbit holding his paw in the air.
Ken Miles put the first 'prancing rabbit' in the winner's circle at Green Valley Raceway in 1965. Later, Neale's "Gawdawful Yellow" livery was applied to the 1967 Shelby Trans Am car. When Shelby ceased production in 1970, drivers put the heraldry on other vehicles. In 2007, Shelby Automobiles returned the Terlingua Racing Team name to prominence with the announcement of a limited series of packages for Ford Mustangs and Shelby Cobras.
"I'm proud of the Terlingua Racing Team Shelby Mustang and the part it will play in helping the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation," said Neale. "Our goal was to show young people how they could have some fun with the Mustang and this car really delivers. Not only will I personally sign the car, but so will many of those who were part of the original program like Phil Remington and Tom Yeager. This will be truly a one-of-a-kind Shelby."
