NBC Gives KITT the Green Light

The entertainment industry's stalwart news source, Variety, is reporting that NBC is moving ahead to bring Knight Rider onto the 2008-2009 television schedule.

The original, two-hour series pilot gained high Neilsen ratings, but didn't fare as nearly well on the critic's ratings. Regardless, as we predicted last month, 26 million eyeballs won out over a few dozen scribblers.

Reportedly, the series could even be dropped into an ultra-prime Friday night time slots.

The pilot episode featured three modified Mustangs, pretending to be the same car in transformed states. Looking overall like Shelby GT500KR variants, two of the pilot's vehicles - Attack Mode KItt and Super KITT - were auctioned this past weekend at the Barrett Jackson event in Palm Beach, FL, fetching $150K for the pair.

NBC planners apparently feel that the viewing public has had enough of 'reality' shows and is prepared to suspend belief in order to enjoy lots of action and, perhaps, some plot.

Certainly, one of the best performances from the pilot had to be that of a Ford Edge which was able to keep up with the 540-hp Shelby on a twisting road.

The situation reminds me of that for the movie Ghost Rider. It's the kind of thing every guy wants to see, but few will admit to. Yea, I bought a copy of the DVD, once it was available as previously viewed.
