Camaro Tests Around the World

by CP Staff

A significant part of the development process for a new car involves testing. This begins early on, in most cases even before the final feature list and technical specifications have been locked down.

For GM's new 2010 Camaro, facilities around the world were used to ensure that the most appropriate range of test conditions were available when needed.

Above, testing of the car's traction control and StabiTrak was doubtless a favored activity at Lang Lang, General Motors' Testing Facility in Australia.

Of course, you don't have to stray far from home to get hot. With temperatures at 105F, hot weather and elevation testing of Camaros in the Mojave Desert is undertaken.

Finding the other end of the scale is as easy as driving north. With temperatures at -26F, winter performance is evaluated at the GM Cold Weather Test Facility in KapusKasing, Ontario Canada.

Testing for overall performance requires a variety of conditions and road surfaces. Many manufacturers have adopted the northern loop (Nordschleife) of Germany's famed Nurburgring circuit.

It could be expected that one of the more favored Executive Ride programs was the acceleration testing at Milford, General Motors North American Test Facility.

As Camaros are now rolling off the assembly line in Oshawa, Ontario, the result of all this testing and evaluation will soon be known. Doubtless, the newest ponycar will positively reflect the international training received during development.
