Saleen Reveals Raptor in New York

If the continuing growth of muscle car announcements has you shaking your head, with the possibility of $4 per gallon hits just around the corner, Saleen has revealed their forward vision with a new supercar concept.

The two-door, mid-engine, aluminum and composite S5S Raptor is expected to deliver 650 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque, while running on environmentally-friendly E85 fuel.

The Saleen-built 5.0-liter V8 engine, uses a twin-screw supercharger, dual stage water-to-air intercooling and sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection, with a 10.6 to 1 compression ration to achieve those output numbers.

The Raptor is intended to fit into the market below the company's S7 supercar and could be a natural candidate for competition use in the American LeMans Series.

"It's still a concept, but market reaction will be key in determining when and if production starts," explained company president and CEO Paul Wilbur. Regardless, there appears to be little that is tentative about the company's push into this market.

"What we're putting together is an all-American supercar company," added Wilbur.

Other company announcements at the New York Auto Show included the Dan Gurney Signature Edition Mustang, the Sky Vu sliding scenic roof option for the S281Sc Mustang and a power tonneau cover for the S331 pickup truck.
