Success builds on success. Never were these words truer than with the announcement that Belgian Eric De Doncker will joins forces with the Swiss racing team Matech.
Already a double title holder of the European GT4 Cup at the wheel of the Insulco Motorsport 98 Ford Mustang FR500GT4, Eric De Doncker is preparing himself for a pretty busy 2009 sporting season.
De Doncker recently he confirmed his entry in the European FIA GT3 championship for the entire season, at the wheel of the Swiss team's Ford GT - one of three that they successfully ran in the GT3 class last season.

"For several seasons now, Martin Bartek's Matech GT Racing has proven that the Ford GT has become the reference in the FIA GT3 pack," Eric explained. "The team's title, clinched in 2008, perfectly demonstrated that. In that light, I reckon I'll be taking on this European campaign with the best possible weapon, allowing me to quite categorically state that we are aiming for the title ..."
De Doncker will be teaming up with the young Frenchman, Dino Lunardi, who drove the Ford GT Matech last year, during a round of the French GT3 championship on the Magny-Cours circuit. Lunardi drove the wheels off the GT, not only grabbing pole position, but clinching a victory and clocking up a lap record to boot.
"Ford Racing and Multimatic are continuing with their support for the 2009 season, proving that the performances set up with the Mustang FR500C GT4 have been appreciated for their true value, even on the other side of the Atlantic," added De Doncker. The FR500GT4 is virtually the same car as the FR500C used in North American for the Grand Am Series' Koni Sports Car Challenge.
Reportedly, De Doncker will have additional announcements within the next few weeks. He's pretty busy for a guy that retired from racing several years back to take up golf.
