Winter Freezes Out Mustang Sales
by CP Staff
Cold weather and consumer uncertainty did little to hurt demand for Ford’s crossovers, which remained strong in January. Sales for the Ford Edge were 95 percent higher than a year ago.
Retail demand for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars also was strong in January. Combined retail sales for the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln MKZ also were higher than a year ago.
"We're very pleased with this result," said Jim Farley, Ford’s group vice president, Marketing and Communications. “It’s not going to get any easier – at least for awhile."

Indeed. Mustang sales continued to reflect deepening concerns over the economy, fuel prices and credit uncertainties.
In January, a total of 6,545 Mustangs were delivered to new owners, compared to 9,064 sales last January. The current month's result represents a drop of 27.8%.
Recent remarks by Alan Mulally, CEO of Ford, confirm that the updated 2010 model Mustang will be available "early next year," which is coincident with the timing acknowledged recently by GM for the all-new Camaro.
Ford recently announced that a glass roof option will be available for the 2009 Mustang, which is also the 45th Anniversary model. One has to wonder what other rabbits lie waiting in the hat.
Let us fervently hope for some more, if these sales numbers are to continue their dismal trend.
