Less than six days remain until the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is revealed at the Chicago Auto Show, but the first production model was sold earlier this month.

Craig Jackson, the Chairman and CEO of the Barrett-Jackson auction house, bought the first Challenger SRT8 with a winning bid of $400,000 at the 37th annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, AZ.

Jackson’s new Challenger SRT8 will feature a 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine, HEMI Orange paint, carbon-fiber-like hood stripes and a chrome fuel filler cap. Only 6,400 of the limited-edition vehicles will be produced for sale in the United States for 2008.

Earlier this week, GM's vice chairman of global product development, Bob Lutz was speaking to more than 200 people at a meeting of the Hundred Club of Flint.

While delivering an upbeat message about the company's future, Lutz also spoke briefly about the company's upcoming Camaro product. He expects the Chevrolet Camaro to be the corporation's next big product splash 'toward the end of this year.'

"That's again designed with the best in class philosophy," Lutz said. "We didn't want to make it as good as the Mustang. We wanted to go way beyond where the Mustang is."
