Grand Am Driver Tom Nastasi
Nastasi Preps Challenger for Daytona

Tom Nastasi knows a thing or two about winning at Daytona International Speedway in Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge competition.

A two-time winner at the 3.56-mile track in a KONI car, Nastasi has been a trendsetter, having taken the newest version of the Ford Mustang to victory lane in 2005. He again triumphed at the track in a Mustang in 2007, and with the pattern he's started, said he believes 2009 will continue his success in odd-numbered years.

But 2009 will be different for the Stamford, CT, driver. Nastasi is set to debut the Dodge Challenger in the season opener at Daytona, driving the No. 5 Blackforest Motorsports machine in Grand Sport competition.

"We made history with the new Mustang winning the race, and we plan on doing the same thing again in 2009," Nastasi said.

Nastasi started the 2008 season in a Ford Mustang but quickly moved to a BMW M3 later in the year, as he paired with Automatic Racing, which helped prep the car. Despite an abbreviated season for Nastasi, who owns five career KONI Sports Car Challenge victories, he managed four top 10s in five starts with a best finish of fourth at Mosport International Raceway.

Nastasi expects the No. 5 won't be the only Dodge Challenger out of the Blackforest Motorsports stable in 2009, but that depends on finances and the automobile bailout. The goal, however, is to field three cars by the midway point of the season.

The Challenger is only one of several new cars set to take part in KONI Grand Sport action this season. The new BMW M3 was unveiled by Kinetic Motorsports last month, and the new Camaro - built by Riley Technologies - will see its first laps under the Stevenson Motorsports banner later in 2009.
