Carroll Shelby and New GT500 Mustang
The Grand Man Returns

Ford Motor Company managed to squeeze another Mustang model and another appearance out of Carroll Shelby at the North American International Auto Show preview this weekend.

While the first round of photos and complete specifications on the new model broke out on New Year's day, the official introduction took place on Sunday.

As in years past, Carroll Shelby was on hand to support the model that bears his name. Mr. Shelby looked good on his arrival and showed that he is still not above a little kibutzing. Here is how the intro went, with Mark Fields handling the Ford side.

MF: Ladies & Gentlemen, the new 2010 Shelby GT500...

(Car drives in with Carroll Shelby in the passenger seat. Carroll gets out...)

MF: You know, we delivered this car by applying the lessons learned on the Mustang KN, by none other than Carroll Shelby, who is with us here today...

CS: Hi Mark. You are you doing?

MF: Last year you helped us to deliver the GT500, and I also wanted to wish you a very happy birthday.

CS: Ah... It was last year, on my birthday that we deliverred the GT500 KR. THis year, on my birthday, we're delivering the new GT500. And... looking forward to my 90th birthday... we'll keep on working.

MF: We're on to something here.

MF: We actually love the way you have so challenged us during the years to push us further with our products. Even down to helping us with the placement of the Cobra emblem on the front grille to miximize air flow so we can get more power to the vehicle. So, thank you for being here and a very, very Happy Birthday.

CS: Thank you, Mark.
